Obituary of Sharon Lucille Hammersla

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Sharon Lucille Summers Hammersla, 74, of Plant City, Florida. Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, and love of her life, Donald Lee Hammersla. She is survived by her daughters Karen Mitchell (Timothy) and Jennifer Blakley (Thomas, Jr.), as well as her grandchildren Thomas Blakley III (Maria), Amanda Reardon (Thomas II), Emma Mitchell, and Zachary Mitchell, as well as many family and friends, including brother Edwin G. Summers Jr, and sister Deborah Walsh. Sharon was a proud 1967 graduate of La Reine Catholic High School in Maryland, and she had a successful career working for the Federal government for over 40 years. She worked for NASA as well as the Committees on Science, Space, and Technology and the Judiciary Committee, both for the US House of Representatives. Sharon embraced volunteerism during her retirement, starting as a Docent at the Dr. Samuel A. Mudd House, an ancestral home and historic site in Maryland. She moved to Florida in 2005 and continued giving of her time for several organizations, including her grandchildren's elementary school, the local food bank, and with the Elks. She held many positions within the Elks, both locally and in broader positions for this philanthropic organization, and among her efforts on behalf of the Elks she assisted with grant writing, drug awareness, scholarship awards, and supporting activities to make sure children had an awesome Christmas. Sharon will be missed by many, and the loss of her vibrant personality and joyful exuberance for life has left a void impossible to fill.
